The Six Best Singers In The Greek World

Are you looking for music to accompany your memories of Greece? Or maybe, you are learning the Greek language and you want to have a good start of the basics of the culture of this beautiful country. Whatever the reason, here is a good list of the best Greek singers you need to know.

It was a pleasure for me to make a list of the best Greek singers to have the best beginning of this beautiful journey.

Being popular is not only about fame. It is about what you give and what you get back. It is the gratitude that the people feel for you and what you give.

The following list is the least we can do for these artists, and it is my pleasure that people will get to know them through my work.

They are not only the most popular and best Greek singers, but also beautiful people as well. And this is even more important than their work.

The songs I chose to represent each artist in this article are just a drop of water in their beautiful career. They are just a great start for you. Keep on searching.

So, let’s start!

Charoula Alexiou. As I usually say, Charoula Alexiou is the only person, thing, and notion that still unites the Greeks. No matter what we argue about, religion, regimes, way of life, anything! One thing is common. Charoula Alexiou is the voice of Greece. I think she is the only person that is still loved as a legend in this country. We really worship her, and she deserves it. Here is one of her dozens of songs that I love. If someone can really choose, guys…

Alkinoos Ioannides. Ioannides started his career in the 90’s as a young man, but as the years go by, he becomes even more beloved and his way becomes even brighter. He is a gentle soul that expresses his feelings through his music and poetry. As an artist and Greek, he has always been with justice and truth. He is an environmental activist and always expresses his opposition against the regime in a gentle and unique way. Alkinoos Ioannides is a great paradigm of self-respect, morality, and love for justice. Here is one of his first popular songs that we will love forever.

If you work with love for what you do and humans, if you have a character and you are clear in difficult periods of time, love comes as a result.

Dimitris Mitropanos. Mitropanos was and he will forever be one of the most, maybe the most beloved Greek singer. He was a pure talent that worked all his life in humility and love. He didn’t talk that much, we know his voice mostly by singing. That’s how he loved to tell things to humans. That’s why he is a man that we will forever be missing, as he died in 2012. If I had to pick one song that represents him most remarkably this maybe is going to be Roza.

Nikos Papazoglou. A great singer and composer that came from Thessaloniki to Athens to end us as one of the most beloved Greek artists. He would always accompany his singing with his baglamadaki, or guitar. He died in 2011, but his music and voice will be with us as long as a Greek is alive. Click here to have a great start with Nikos Papazoglou.

Eleni Tsaligopoulou. That woman is more than an artist. If I tried to describe her I would say that she is a sweet girl playing on stage. She is so sweet and so approachable that it is impossible not to love her. I don’t know if she knows that she is one of the most remarkable Greek singers, but I think that she knows that she is really loved. I hope that she knows that. Έλα πάρε μου τη λύπη (ela pare mou ti lypi) is one of the songs that I really love.

Popularity is not only about fame, it is about the love of humans. These artists are greatly loved and they really deserve it.

Glykeria. Glykeria has more traditional influences in her music and singing. Her music is a combination of traditional Greek music (influenced by the Pontic Greeks) and the modern sounds of today. You can’t watch live of her and not have fun. It is just impossible. Her voice is unique and you can’t confuse her with anyone else. Her voice is strong and warm, making her songs one of your best memories about Greece.

This article is just a part of a series of articles that will follow. We can’t cover all types of music, and composers in just one article. Like all the countries in the world, Greece has got great music and remarkable artists. It will be my pleasure to get to know them through my work.

Thank you for that.
