Are you thinking lately about taking up a new language? Do you want to get to know about a new culture or the culture of your ancestors? Have you recently moved abroad for work or you want your kids to be connected with the language of their parent or the new country they live in?
There are several reasons why people want to take up a new language. It can be an creative hobby or a useful tool. Whatever the reason is, there is a question for modern humans. Should I choose e-learning for me or my child, or should I go for the traditional face to face teaching method?
The traditional method of private teaching has got so many benefits.
As a traditional private teacher for eight years, I haven’t found any drawbacks so far. It is a great way to build a close relationship with a person you would probably never meet in your city, if it wasn’t for the object that is taught. Languages stay alive as long as people stay connected. Languages are living organisms that keep us warm together and have the power to unite us. Through the years, I have built unforgettable relationships with lovely teenagers and adults, spent time together away from books as well, we helped each other grow and watched each other bloom together.
In the outstanding era we live, we can add value to this!
For the first time in our known history, humans can work together as one, wherever we live. This is the deep reason why the scientists had worked in their desire to build this human web. To unite people, not to separate them and make them feel isolated. The best tribute to the work of these remarkable people is to use it for this reason. And this works for our own benefit.
Come with me to narrow down together just six of the advantages that an e-student can enjoy.
As I mentioned before, e-learning is not better than the traditional teaching method. It adds some extra benefits to the current traditional system. And I just love this.
1. There is a native speaker somewhere in the world for you. And this is huge! I think it is part of a magic process to learn a language. You have an appointment with a person that lives in your target country, you both schedule the time zone and you weekly have a commitment to get in touch with each other. You have the incredible possibility to build a relationship with someone you would never get to know in other circumstances and learn up to date news from this country.
Having this connection with the country will be your week habit from then on. It may sound funny, but it is deeply essential. You have a connection with the country whose language you want to learn. Internet has spoilt humans and made us think that most of the things we currently have are taken for granted, but even 15 years ago this was a kind of dream for humans. We are the luckiest humans in our known history to enjoy such advantages!
Personally, I am so excited with the tools we have in our hands.
And I am going to use as many as I can. We are experiencing the dream of all previous generations, and I am not going to ruin it by thinking that the internet isolates humans. It is connecting us. There will be a personal assistant for you somewhere in this beautiful globe to help you solve all your questions. And this is huge.
2. You don’t have to drive or wait for someone to come to your house. I have experienced this from both sides. Being a student of private lessons at my place as a university student. I was working in a café back then to pay for my lessons and personal expenses and had a teacher because I wanted to learn German as a third language. Waiting for her in my personal place twice a week was quite stressful. Maybe it was just me, but waiting for her at my home made me lose more time of my day, than it deserved. It was a one hour lesson and I was wating for her more than one hour before.
As a teacher, I had to drive more than 10 minutes for each lesson (I have always lived in villages so the distances were small), which is enjoyable for me, but stressful in order to be right on time at each house. The problem now is solved!
Thank you, Alan Turing!
3. You don’t have to buy books. I love books! However, language books are an important expense in the school year. Your e-teacher will be providing you with all the notes and book pages that are necessary for your e-learning. This way you save money and paper. It is beneficial for both your wallet and the protection of the Planet. You save more than 100$ per year.
All you need to have is a notebook and a pencil. And that’s all for the perfect school year that you have prepared yourself for! E-learning is the cheapest possible way of quality learning. Nowadays, knowledge is for everyone, get used to it and be part of it. E-Learning Is A Great Way To Learn A New Language and help the planet cope with pollution.
4. It is cheaper. As we mentioned before, the student saves more than 100$ from the books that they would buy normally. But it is not only that! The student saves an important amount of money from the hourly rate of the lesson. A respectful hour lesson is not for free of course, but it is much cheaper because it doesn’t include the petrol that the teacher has to buy to get to your house and many other expenses.
But I have to tell you something. Do not expect a good teacher to be very cheap. A good teacher has invested a lot of money and time to reach the level to be able to navigate you properly. Don’t pay for the ego of someone (because many people overcharge) but a good teacher is not an expense, it is an investment.
A good teacher has the potential to raise your future income, no matter how old you think you are. Be demanding on your food. Either it is nutrition or food for thought and research. And I am a girl who paid for language teacher when all I used to eat was spaghetti with ketchap, and I haven’t regretted it. I invested in knowledge.

5. You can build a small group with people from all around the world! E-classes don’t have to be private. You can ask your teacher to let you join a small group of 2 or 3 people and learn all together. This way you win in many ways. First, the price gets even more affordable. But there is also one more benefit. You become a member of a community that has the same goal as you. I don’t know if you have ever experienced this, but it is huge for the psychology and motivation.
You will be exchanging ideas with people that live in places miles away from you and they can give you the motivation you need to change the way you see everything.
It is the cheapest possible way to build yourself and help you rise and bloom. This is the reason why the internet was developed, guys. It was built for humans to unite and rise altogether. A small group of people who can help each other, can be the core of something huge.
Never underestimate this. Imagine this group making an appointment and learn together, help each other and build community. I love this. One of the many reasons why E-Learning Is A Great Way To Learn A New Language.
6. You can have the lessons recorded if you like. This is up to you and it can help you listen the lesson as many times as you wish so as to study it deeply, revise and never leave anything behind. Apart from personal notes the teacher will be saving for you, you have this extra potential for your personal notes.
7. IT IS a face to face traditional method of learning. You spend personal time with the teacher, telling jokes and ask whatever you want. Having done this for the past four years, I can tell that you build a personal relationship with each other, you are just not in the same room. And that is all.
If both sides are welcoming the process and they really want to do it, you can create the connection and become confident, just like a teacher and student would meet in the same room. I totally love the electric guitar lessons I am having with my teacher who lives in the same region with me, but I chose to go online for all the reasons I mentioned above.
I have been a teacher for twelve years. For eight years I used to drive to my students’ houses and for the past four years, I am an online Greek teacher. I would suggest you to write down all the benefits and drawbacks from both option according to your personal needs and standards.
I would love to see your thoughts and experiences in the comment section if you ever had a good or bad experience through your e-learning lessons and if you believe E-Learning Is A Great Way To Learn A New Language as well!
